The St. Croix Underage Drinking Coalition strives to provide an education environment for youth, liquor establishments, and the community as a whole regarding the dangers of youth access to alcohol. Through a combination of education and enforcement action SCUDC combats youth access to alcohol, thus saving lives.
It has been shown that enforcement and education taken exclusive of one another have not produced positive results of restricting youth access to alcohol. However, taken together, mutually, lives are saved, awareness has been exponentially increased, and hospitalizations have decreased.
SCUDC works "hand and hand" with law enforcement to create a greater awareness to communities and its youth. As well, the Coalition partners in completing alcohol compliance investigations. Compliance investigations have proven to reduce the sale of alcohol to underage persons. Education is the main theme of the compliance checks and enforcement activity is used only when education has not been heeded by servers/management.
Finally, the members of the SCUDC have agreed to participate in the Underage Alcohol Task Force. This Task Force is developed to be activated when individual agencies require resources to combat underage access. (i.e. underage parties)
